Do you accept insurance?

  • I am an Out-of-Network (OON) provider, which means I do not accept insurance and am not on any insurance panels. However, upon request, I can help you prepare a superbill (see below for more information) to get reimbursement for the services you directly pay me for through your OON benefits with insurance (also see below).

  • I recommend contacting your insurance to inquire about your OON mental health benefits.
    • Most insurance companies will reimburse you at a percentage of what is "reasonable and customary" in their geographical area, which is based on your individual plan.
      • Please be sure to inform them that you intend to see a  licensed doctoral-level psychologist in Washington D.C. as the educational  level of the therapist and geographical area where the therapy is delivered may impact the reimbursement rate provided by your policy.

Why should I consider an out-of-network provider?

  • Being out-of-network allows me to minimize the amount of confidential information I am required to disclose to your insurance company and helps me to protect your privacy.
    • Therapy with insurance means your therapy is not actually confidential because notes can be reviewed by insurers for service utilization and medical necessity.
    • Also, for insurance reimbursement, I have to prove you are “sick enough” to need services and thus a diagnosis is required.
  • It also allows us to determine your care/treatment instead of being dictated by the insurance company. Therefore, I can offer specialized comprehensive care and am able to work  on a more detailed treatment plan as needed.
    • Here is an article that further details the benefits of working with an out-of-network provider.

How do I check if I have out-of-network benefits?

Here are your options:

  1. Visit your health insurer's website to view your plan details.
  2. Call the customer service number on the back of your insurance card to verify your benefits.

Ask these questions when speaking to your insurance company about benefits:

  1. What is my out-of-network deductible for outpatient mental health? (Outpatient means treatment outside a hospital.)
  2. How much of my deductible has been met this year?
  3. What is my out-of-network coinsurance for outpatient mental health?
  4. Do I need a referral from an in-network provider to see someone out-of-network?
  5. How do I submit claim forms for reimbursement? (Claims are forms that are sent to your insurance company to receive reimbursement for sessions you paid out of pocket.)

If you call your insurance company, you will likely need to provide these two codes:

  • Type of Service/CPT Code:
    • 90834 (individual therapy)
    • 90847 (couple/relationship therapy)
    • 90853 (group therapy)
  • Place of Service Code:
    • 02 (telehealth provided other than in patient’s home)
    • 10 (telehealth provided in patient's home)
    • 11 (in therapist's office)
      • Some insurance companies may ask for the telehealth modifier for the CPT code (-95)

What are superbills?

In order to take advantage of the out-of-network benefits, you pay for each visit out-of-pocket, and then file for reimbursement directly with your insurance company.  I will provide you with a monthly "superbill" that lists the necessary information (such as service, date, fee) to submit to your insurance for reimbursement.

What are your fees and pricing policy?

  • My session fee is comparable to the D.C. and NYC markets and is commensurate to fees of other licensed clinical psychologists with similar qualifications and years of experience and training.
    • Your fees not only include the therapy session but also include the additional time it takes me to complete HIPAA-compliant documentation after every session, seek consultation, and engage in treatment planning in between our sessions.
      • Individual psychotherapy session (45-minutes): $275
      • Couple/Relationship psychotherapy session (50-minutes): $325
      • Group psychotherapy session (60-minutes): $75-150 (depending on type of group)

  • Reduced fee options depend on client need and availability. I reserve a portion of my caseload for reduced fee slots. If I do not have any available, I am happy to help assist with referrals to other clinicians in the area if needed.

  • I accept payment via Credit Cards, Health Savings Account (HSA), or Flexible Spending Account (FSA).
